Ms Imade Mary-Nickie Asemota
On May 10th, 1984, Imade was born in London, England to Nigerian parents. At age 16, she and her family moved to Raleigh. She completed her high school diploma at Sanderson High.
She attained a Bachelors in Chemical Engineering at the prestigious Engineering College at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, Magnum Cum Laude in 2005.
In 2007, Imade graduated with a Masters in Chemical Engineering from Michigan State University.
She began her PhD in Chemical Engineering at the University of Michigan in July, 2008. Her academic research focused on "investigating the effect of blood platelets on neutrophil transmigration and understanding platelet-endothelial interaction during inflammation"- Imade was studying to better understand how red blood cell interactions affect the body's natural immune response and how these interactions might differ in Sickle-Cell Disease.
Imade enjoyed tourism and world geography. She was a member of the Jamaican dance group "Destiny."
She was undoubtedly passionate about her faith in God. One of her favorite books- The Purpose Driven Life- is a cornerstone for understanding that the Glory of God is the sole purpose for human existence.
On Saturday, April 11th, at 2:29a.m, Imade passed away at the Intensive Care Unit of The University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
In her own way, Imade has made this world a better place. Her unfailing generosity and continued willingness to mentor and motivate people around her is a testimony to our precious angel's character. Imade's legacy will continue to live on through the plethora of lives she has touched and through 'The Imade Asemota Foundation for Sickle Cell Research and Patients' Welfare.'
